After the earthquake on Sunday evening with magnitude 6.9 striking the northern part of Lombok we would like to give you an update on the current situation.
As it still is an ongoing situation there could be further updates on the impact of the earthquake. Over 90 persons have been reported deceased, most of these at Northern Lombok. In Bali the reported damages seems to be limited. There is no confirmation of foreign citizens as yet amongst the deceased. A number of persons have been injured and also there are structural damages in Lombok and also at the nearby Gili islands. An evacuation of persons from the Gili islands is ongoing, to Lombok or Bali.
The airport in Bali and Lombok are functional and planes are leaving only with some delays but there could be difficulties in getting airline tickets leaving from Lombok the next few days. Some EU embassies have setup helpdesks at Lombok airport to advice travellers.
We advise that you closely monitor official news sources and follow local authorities recommendations.
Euro-Center Bangkok is currently providing assistance to affected insureds and are in exchange with our providers. We will contact concerned insurance companies as the situation continues to unfold.
